96.3
whyt Detroit variety hits radio station I started listening to this
station in the early 90s it is the radio station that introduced me to
hip hop and make no mistake about it if they hadn't switched formats in
the late 90s no one would be concerned with WJLB or 107.5 when WJLB was
scared to play hip hop in the morning you can wake up bright and early
and hear LL Cool J Naughty by Nature iced tea on 96.3 FM
This was the logo for the radio station before I started listening
Lisa Lisa The Party Princess
Micheal J Fox and Doc
Around 1998 WHYT changed formats and became a modern hits station
without the rap
we where all forced to start listening to WJLB
At 96.3 W.J.L.B. stood for
We Jock Lisa Boyz.........That was classic
In the mid ninties the logo of the station was changed to fit a updated
format planet 96.3
They would always host events at Pine Knob Msic Theatre
This is a picture of 13 year old me kicking it at the studio
Left to right
Joquan Da Hooligan, Reggie Hotmix Harrell, Claude Young Jr, And
McConnell Large Adams
I
used to call in to 96.3 every day I would play the tapes of the
recordings of me calling into the radio station with my friend damn I
wish I still had those tapes I've always had a love for the art of
broadcasting sometimes I would sit in my room and pretend that my desk
was radio station board eventually I got cool with Lisa Lisa the party
princess and she let me start to come down to the radio station and
kick it I remember Lisa Lisa and Michael J fox showing me the way to
cut reels after they recorded phone calls and edit them to play over
the air
